In loving memory: Today would have been the 36th birthday of the late
Hj Md Zaki Hj Zainal Abidin who sadly passed away early this year.
May he rest in peace - Al-faatihah

Braised lamb shank. What can I say? I’m a sucker for lamb shank, and this was done very nicely. Perhaps a tad more gravy would have made it perfect!

Spaghetti Marinara with fresh seafood… prawns, scallops, mussels.. mmmmm!

Congratulations to Australian rookie Rick Kulacz who holed a stunning bunker shot for birdie to defeat Chinese Taipei’s Lu Wen-teh in a play-off and win the Brunei Open on Sunday. Kulacz, the 2001 world junior champion, produced one of the shots of the season to capture his maiden Asian Tour title at Empire Hotel and Country Club after tying Lu on 13-under-par 271.
The 23-year-old, who held the overnight lead, overcame an early double bogey on his first hole en route to a one-under-par 70 in the final round but was caught by Lu, who closed out with a 67.
In the first hole of a sudden-death shootout, Kulacz and Lu found the greenside bunker at the par four 18th hole and after Lu had splashed out to five feet, the Perth-based Kulacz produced the unlikeliest of winning shots.
“My uncle Terry died earlier this year and he’s always told me to believe in myself. I want to dedicate this to him and I felt that he was with me during the play-off,” said Kulacz, who earned US$47,550.
Tks AR for the solid pic!

Congratulations to the Brunei Art Forum and Sheraton Utama Hotel on the overwhelming success of the joint art exhibition held yesterday in conjunction with the UNICEF Check Out for Children Challenge 2008.
Sheraton Utama Hotel UNICEF Committee with some of the local artists
The UNICEF Check Out for Children™ Challenge is held annually that is run by Starwood employees in the Asia Pacific region. In conjunction with this, the hotel tied up with Brunei Art Forum to hold a joint art exhibition. The art exhibition was a one day event that was held yesterday at Sheraton Utama Hotel’s Mutiara Ballroom with aims of not only creating awareness of UNICEF and the Challenge, but to promote local artists as well.
“We have received an overwhelming response from both the artists from Brunei Art Forum as well as the public for this themed ‘Child Survival’ exhibition. It was great to see people connecting with each other through art,” stated Wena Hj Hamidon, Sheraton Utama Hotel’s UNICEF Ambassador.
The Sheraton Utama Hotel and its UNICEF Committee would like to thank Brunei Art Forum and the public for their support towards the cause.

The 6th Brunei National Conference on Autism began yesterday morning at the Civil Service Institute with the theme “Don’t DIS the Ability” which advocates the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as an ability, an advantage and as strength.
“Time is our enemy,” stated Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, President of SMARTER Brunei, at the three-day conference. “Our programs would be obsolete in six months if we don’t bring in outside people for new ideas,” he added as he reiterated the necessity of the annual conferences in improving their services and methodologies.
The Society for the Management of Autism-Related Issues — In Training, Education and Resources, more commonly known as SMARTER Brunei, was established in September 2001 and has since been fervently advocating their cause.
The speakers L to R: Debbie Smith, Peter Hill, Yvette Cook, Joanna Zeitz, and Verity Bottroff
